WASHINGTON (AP) - The Generic Pharmaceutical Association paid Fierce, Isakowitz & Blalock $120,000 to lobby the federal government in the first half of 2007, according to a disclosure form. The firm lobbied lawmakers on Medicare and Medicaid regulations and patent reform efforts, according to the disclosure form posted online Aug. 10 by the Senate's public records office.A bill signed into law by President Bush on Thursday gave the Food and Drug Administration new powers to ensure the safety of prescription drugs used by millions of Americans. But generic drug makers such as Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. and Barr Pharmaceuticals Inc. failed to convince lawmakers to attach legislation that would allow them to market generic versions of biotech drugs produced by the likes of Amgen Inc. and Genentech Inc.Among those registered to lobby for the company was Aleix Jarvis, former legislative director for Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C.Under a federal law enacted in 1995, lobbyists are required to disclose activities that could influence members of the executive and legislative branches. They must register with Congress within 45 days of being hired or engaging in lobbying.Copyright 2007 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
