Japan Jan industrial output falls 1.5 pct from Dec, beats forecast |

TOKYO (XFN-ASIA) - Industrial output fell a seasonally adjusted 1.5 pct in January from the previous month after rising by 0.9 pct in December, preliminary data from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry showed.The decline was smaller than the market's consensus forecast of 1.9 pct. The ministry earlier projected a month-on-month rise of 2.8 pct for January.Year-on-year, output increased 4.3 pct last month.The ministry predicted that production will drop by 1.8 pct in February from January , but will rise by 2.4 pct in March from February.The ministry provided the following month-on-month data for January, compared with the corresponding revised figures for December:Output - down 1.5 pct vs up 0.9 pctShipments - down 0.3 pct vs down 0.4 pctInventories - down 0.9 pct vs up 1.2 pct(1 usd = 118.12 yen)kaori.kaneko@xfn.comkk/mas
