SEOUL (XFN-ASIA) - The chief executive of LG Philips LCD said he sees a possible partnership with Matsushita Electric of Japan to be 'good' for the company, local news provider edaily reported.

'If Matsushita, which is also one of our customers, becomes shareholder, that would be good (for us),' LG Philips LCD CEO Kwon Young-Soo was quoted as saying.

'We are supplying 32- and 37-inch LCD panels to Matsushita.. .We could think of Matsushita as an alternative to Philips, which has served well both as customer and as shareholder,' Kwon was cited as saying.

Earlier this month, the panel maker rejected local reports that it is involved in preparations for a possible strategic tie-up with Matsushita.

LG Philips LCD is a joint venture between South Korea's LG Electronics and Royal Philips Electronics NV. Philips has announced its intention to sell all its 32.9 pct stake in the panel maker.
