DENVER (AP) - Qwest Communications announced Wednesday that vice chairman and Chief Financial Officer Oren G. Shaffer would step down from his posts effective April 1.A statement from the Denver, Colo.-based phone company said Qwest Communications International Inc.'s controller and senior vice president of finance, John W. Richardson, would take over as CFO and executive vice president.Shaffer, 64, had served in his current roles since July 2002, after working with companies such as Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., Ameritech and Sorrento Networks Inc.'I am extremely proud of our accomplishments during the past five years and especially of Oren's contributions,' Richard C. Notebaert, Qwest's chairman and chief executive officer, said in the statement. 'We are very fortunate to have had him come out of retirement almost five years ago and join the Qwest team in its successful pursuit of sustained profitability.'Neither Qwest nor Shaffer gave a specific reason for his retirement.Richardson, 61, was named chief accounting officer in April 2004, and has served as controller and senior vice president since April 2003.Qwest and its board also announced that R.
