MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Gov. Jim Doyle will lead a trade mission to China and Japan in September.The trade mission will start in Tokyo on Sept. 7 with the U.S. Midwest-Japan Conference, Doyle's office announced Wednesday. That meeting promotes bilateral trade between the Midwest and Japan.From there, Doyle and those traveling with him will go to China, visiting Shanghai, Beijing and Ningbo between Sept. 12 and Sept. 18.'This trade mission is a great opportunity for Wisconsin companies to meet the customers and business leaders that will help them build their sales in these important markets,' Doyle said in a statement.Wisconsin exports increased 15.1 percent from 2005 to 2006 to a record $17.2 billion in 2006, the governor's office said Wednesday.The state sent the most products to Canada, followed by Mexico, China and Japan. Exports to China increased 29 percent to $870.3 million, and Japan went up 6 percent to $738.8 million.Top exports were industrial machinery, including computer equipment, followed by electrical machinery and medical and scientific instruments.This will be Doyle's second trade mission to Japan and China.
