SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) - Marti Buscaglia will not become publisher of The Orange County Register because she misrepresented her educational background on her resume, the paper said.Buscaglia, 54, was scheduled to start July 9. Friday will be her last day as publisher of the Duluth (Minn.) News Tribune.According to the Register, Buscaglia came forward with the misrepresentation after her appointment was announced.'Credibility is a hallmark of Freedom and our products,' said N. Christian Anderson III, current publisher of the Register and president and chief executive officer of Freedom Orange County Information, which publishes the paper.'We agreed that this breach would make it impossible for her to fulfill her responsibilities. I respect Marti's decision to withdraw and know it is the right one. Marti has excellent experience and has served companies well in her 30-year career.'The Register reported Wednesday that Buscaglia's resume said she had graduated from Lima University in Peru. The Register obtained her resume from an executive recruiter while she was being considered for other jobs within Freedom Communications Inc., the Irvine-based media company that owns the Register.'I take full responsibility for it,' Buscaglia was quoted as saying in Wednesday's Register. 'It's one of those things you put on a resume when you are young and stupid and you can never take it back.'Anderson will continue as publisher and CEO of the Register, a post he has held for more than eight years, the company said.Copyright 2007 Associated Press.
