LONDON: Britain's deputy prime minister John Prescott has tiring days ahead. Having admitted earlier this week that he had a two-year affair with his civil service secretary, Prescott, 68, is now faced with the prospect of his ex-lover coming out with revelations of his private life.
Tracey Temple, 44, the deputy prime minister's ex-diary secretary, has signed a deal to tell her story to a Sunday newspaper, the Mail on Sunday. She has also engaged a publicist for her, well known PR pro Max Clifford.
Clifford said she will tell her side of the entire happening to the newspaper, which will publish it tomorrow.
Clifford said Temple was ignored when she asked for official help in dealing with revelations about their affair, a lot of which was untrue.
He told BBC, "She had absolutely nothing to do with the story coming out, so then she went to the Cabinet Office and her colleagues for help and advice on how to handle the media and got nothing, nothing at all."
They were all interested in looking after the deputy prime minister and his interests, he alleged.
He said she wants people to judge her as she really is, as opposed to what they are reading, "which is 10 per cent reality and 90 per cent rubbish".
He added she would get "an awful lot more" than the reported 100,000-pound fee.
Meanwhile, Prescott seems to be having the support of his colleagues, especially prime minister Tony Blair and chancellor Gordon Brown. A poll revealed he has popular support too. Of those interviewed, 57 per cent said he should not quit over his affair. Only 37 per cent wanted him go.
