ZURICH (Thomson Financial) - Ypsomed Holding AG is prepared to pursue Sanofi-Aventis as far as necessary through the courts in a dispute with the French pharma giant over insulin injector patents, said Ypsomed's chairman and majority stakeholder Willy Michel.Michel said in an interview with Swiss bi-weekly Finanz und Wirtschaft that Sanofi-Aventis' refusal to discuss compensation has prompted the Swiss pharma group to resort to the courts.'We are ready to go (this way) until the end, unless we will reach a settlement, which I think is perfectly possible,' he said.Michel said the exact amount in damages Ypsomed will claim has not as yet been fixed as it depends on various factors, including the number of products Sanofi-Aventis has delivered far.Earlier this week, Ypsomed filed a breach of patent lawsuit against Sanofi-Aventis in Germany seeking compensation and a ban on Sanofi's insulin injection product SoloStar.Ypsomed produces the Optiset, OptiClik and OptiPen Pro insulin injectors and alleges that SoloStar breaches two patents owned by Ypsomed unit TecPharma Licensing AG.Sanofi-Aventis denied the claims, saying it will 'strongly defend' its rights to 'ensure availability of our products to our patients'.johanna.treeck@thomson.comjmt/jmsCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
