HONG KONG (XFN-ASIA) - Vodafone is looking at sharing network infrastructure with rivals in India if it acquires Hutchison Essar, the online edition of the Financial Times reported. The move is designed to reduce capital spending, the report said, citing people familiar with Vodafone's plans. With strong competition for Hutchison Essar pushing its enterprise value to as much as 20 bln usd, the report noted that Vodafone may struggle to meet its self-imposed financial targets for the deal. But reduced capital spending could help it meet the targets.Arun Sarin, Vodafone's chief executive, raised the issue of sharing network infrastructure during a trip to India, people familiar with the talks told the newspaper. The government and regulators are considering relaxing rules on network sharing to improve services outside cities and towns.Vodafone declined to comment.Bharti Airtel, India's biggest mobile operator, has held discussions with Vodafone about network sharing, but also declined to comment. Vodafone has a 10 pct stake in Bharti Airtel.FT
