Malaysian shares close at new high led by plantation stocks |

KUALA LUMPUR (Thomson Financial) - Malaysian shares closed higher Monday with gains in plantation and construction stocks sending the key index to a fresh record high.Sentiment was also lifted by the firmer performance of other markets in the region following Wall Street's advance Friday on hopes of a Fed rate cut this week.The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index finished up 13.27 points or 1 percent at the day's high of 1,411.62.The FTSE Bursa Malaysia 30-large cap index gained 85.29 points or 1 percent to 8,906.10 while the second board index gained 1.66 points or 1.5 percent to 110.94.Gainers led decliners 641 to 271, with 239 stocks unchanged.Trading volume was 2.1 billion shares valued at 2.6 billion ringgit.(1 US dollar = 3.34 ringgit)johnkb.tan@thomson.comjt/zrCOPYRIGHTCopyright Thomson Financial News Limited 2007.
