MUMBAI (Thomson Financial) - Indian rating agency Crisil said investments in Indian mutual funds have delivered higher returns at relatively lower risk levels, compared with market indices across various time periods.Crisil said a study based on analysis of returns given by a set of 56 diversified equity funds for time ranging from three to 12 years, showed that no investments in mutual funds have delivered negative returns. While rising interest rates have led to debt funds witnessing lower returns than in the period up to 2003, such funds have been able to register better returns than the market benchmark. In terms of risk also, the results indicate that equity funds have, on an average, shown lower volatility than the index while debt fund managers have cut down on duration to contain valuation losses in existing uncertainties with regard to interest rates, Crisil said.Crisil said it believes that the growth potential for the Indian mutual fund industry is large with the assets under management as a percentage of GDP at a little over 10 pct, which is far lower than the levels seen in other emerging economies like Brazil.Crisil is a unit of Standard & Poor's.TFN.newsdesk@thomson.comndi/ssaCOPYRIGHTCopyright Thomson Financial News Limited 2007.
