GM begins hybrid transmission production |

WHITE MARSH, Md. (AP) - General Motors Corp. said Monday its Baltimore transmission plant began production of a new hybrid transmission.The 2-Mode hybrid transmission will debut in the 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe hybrid and 2008 GMC Yukon hybrid sport utility vehicles, which GM said its Arlington, Texas, assembly plant will begin building in November.More than 500 U.S.-based GM engineers and more than 350 hourly workers are assigned to the 2-Mode program, GM said.GM invested $118 million in the plant for production of the transmission, including new machinery and tooling and a 100,000-square-foot addition.In 2008, the Baltimore plant will begin building 2-Mode hybrid transmissions for another five hybrid vehicles, including the Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra Crew Cab, GM said.GM shares fell 7 cents to $37.70 in morning trading.Copyright 2007 Associated Press.
