ST. PAUL (AP) - The fall harvest sped up last week with a break in the rains, and more than 90 percent of soybeans and sugar beets were in from the fields, according to the Minnesota field office of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The weekly crop report, released Monday, said there were 4.6 days suitable for field work last week and the average temperature was nearly 2 1/2 degrees above normal at 44.6 degrees.

Statewide topsoil moisture supplies as of Friday were rated 3 percent short, 67 percent adequate and 30 percent surplus, the report said.

For individual crops, 73 percent of corn for grain was harvested compared with 66 percent for the five-year average. The moisture content of harvested corn was estimated at 17 percent.

For soybeans, 93 percent of the crop had been harvested compared with 95 percent for the five-year average. The moisture content of the harvested beans was estimated at 13 percent.

Among other crops, the sugar beet harvest stood at 97 percent. Sixty-eight percent of sunflowers and 47 percent of pasture crops were ranked in good to excellent condition.
