OSLO (AFX) - Statoil ASA said that gas production had been effected at its Troll A field in the North Sea offshore Norway and that two compressors had been taken offline for checking.'This is not a planned stop,' said Statoil spokesperson Tori Lindboel.'One compressor was out yesterday and today another one was out,' she said.Statoil said that production was down at Troll A, but declined to give an estimate of how reduced the output was and how long the problems would continue.'Troll A is producing a lower amount just now but it is still producing,' Lindboel added.Troll A, says Statoil, has been producing for 10 years. Industry estimates are that it has recoverable gas reserves of over one trillion cubic metres at the end of last year.Troll is the largest gas field offshore Norway and previous problems have caused gas prices in Britain to firm.Troll still ranks at the biggest gas discovery in the North Sea, says Statoil. It contains 60 pct of the total gas reserves on the Norwegian continental shelf and the Troll field covers an area of 750 square kilometres offshore Norway.patrick.mcloughlin@thomson.compm/jlcCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
