BONN (Thomson Financial) - Deutsche Telekom AG's chief financial officer Karl-Gerhard Eick said the unit's recent earnings affirm the company's plans to hold onto its unit T-Mobile USA, denying speculation the company may aim to divest the unit.

'A sale is absolutely not up for discussion at the moment,' Eick told Thomson Financial News partner dpa-AFX in an interview.

Shares in the German telecommunications giant gained last week after the buyout by GS Capital partners and TPG Capital of Alltel sparked rumours that Deutsche Telekom may be considering a sale of its US T-mobile business.

The unit won 980,000 new customers in the US in the first quarter, beating average analyst expectations.

Eick said he doesn't rule out a sale of T-Mobile USA in the future, adding the 'asset becomes more attractive every day'.

Eick also said the process to sell unit Media & Broadcast has begun, with brochures having been sent to potential buyers.

Deutsche Telekom plans to use proceeds from the sale of Media & Broadcast to expand outside its German home market.

German media last week reported the company aims to fetch a price of up to 1 bln eur for the unit, without saying where it got the information.
