Green Day ‘rocks’ at the MTV awards |

After having been overshadowed by the popular hip-hop and pop all these years, rock music finally reined supreme at the MTV awards as Green Day took most of the honours at a glittering ceremony held in Miami.
The rock band swept away as many as seven moonmen with “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” being awarded the Best Rock Video and Video of the Year. That apart, the video also won the Viewer’s Choice award, Best Group Video and some technical awards too.
Billie Joe Armstrong, lead singer of Green Day, expressed his immense pleasure that at outcome of the awards stating that MTV still has a place for rock music.
The only nomination which they failed to capture was in the art direction category. It was won by Gwen Stefani for “What You Waiting For?”
Among the other prominent winners, rapper Kanye West walked away with Best Male Video award for "Jesus Walks” while Kelly Clarkson was declared the winner in Best Female Video and Best Pop Video category for "Since U Been Gone." The Killers were presented with the Best New Artist award. Kelly Clarkson's “Since U Been Gone” won two awards, for Best Female and Pop Video. Damon Albarn's band Gorillaz won the Best Special Effects in a video and Breakthrough Video award.
With the theme ‘Anything Can Happen’, the show was hosted by P.Diddy whose entry was accompanied by dances, pyrotechnics and a beautiful waterfall.
Luke, along with a group of their dancers, Diddy and R&B heartthrob Omarion were seen onstage. Most rocking, though, was MC Hammer who set the stage on fire with his ‘90s hit, "U Can't Touch This."
The event was marred to a certain extent by two separate instances; firstly, the Hurricane Katrina which hit southern Florida and secondly Marion "Suge" Knight being shot in the right leg in a Miami nightclub.
