Students to help manage $5M fund at UA |

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AFX) - Business students at the University of Arkansas will help manage a $5 million fund to help develop the state's financial services industry -- pushing the total of its managed investments to nearly $12 million.Faculty at the Sam M. Walton College of Business will also have a hand in running fund, which is held in trust by the University of Arkansas Fayetteville Campus Foundation. The Garrison Financial Institute in the Walton College will oversee investment activities of the fund.The Garrison Financial Institute started at the Fayetteville campus in 2005 to provide clinical experience for students and faculty in financial services.The university says students already help manage several other funds and that the new addition will enhance student learning.'This arrangement provides an important real-world experience for our faculty and students to further develop skills and knowledge in managing actual money,' Dean Dan Worrell said.Students also manage a $5 million bond fund for Arvest Bank Group, a $1.4 million equity fund forming the Rebsamen Trust and a $300,000 equity fund forming the Shollmier MBA Fund.Copyright 2006 Associated Press.
