BEIJING (XFN-ASIA) - French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner is due in Beijing tomorrow to hold talks on Iran, Myanmar and human rights issues, and prepare for Nicolas Sarkozy's first visit to China as president, officials said.Kouchner will meet his Chinese counterpart Yang Jiechi and Prime Minister Wen Jiabao on the final stop of an Asian tour that has taken him to Singapore and Thailand.Paris has hardened its line on the Iranian nuclear issue since Sarkozy came to power in May and has voiced support for both UN and European sanctions against Tehran.Kouchner's visit follows that of Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, who visited Beijing to seek China's backing for 'dramatic' sanctions on Iran for its uranium enrichment programme.China last week reaffirmed its opposition to tough action, calling instead for a negotiated end to the impasse. The Kouchner visit is likely to set the tone for Sarkozy's dealings with Beijing amid expectations that he may veer from the relationship maintained by his predecessor Jacques Chirac, he said.afp-xfntmCOPYRIGHTCopyright Thomson Financial News Limited 2007.
