Websense 3Q earnings top expectations, revenue rises from a year ago

NEW YORK (Thomson Financial) - Websense Inc. reported third-quarter adjusted earnings of $10.9 million, or 24 cents a share, exceeding the mean estimate of analysts surveyed by Thomson Financial of 22 cents a share.

Revenue rose 10% to $50.4 million from $45.7 million in the same period a year ago, compared with analyst forecasts of $50.5 million.

The San Diego security software company said it expects adjusted fourth-quarter earnings of 20 to 23 cents a share and revenue of $76 million to $79 million. Analysts have been projecting fourth-quarter earnings of 24 cents a share and revenue of $65.9.

The stock closed Tuesday's regular session at $18.33.
