LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - The state Labor Department says Nebraska's estimated unemployment rate rose a tenth of a point in October, to 3.2 percent. In a report issued Friday, the department said the new seasonally adjusted figure is two-tenths of a point higher than October 2006 but 1.5 percentage points lower than the national figure of 4.7 percent for October this year. The national figure is three-tenths of a point higher than a year earlier.Nebraska has added more than 13,400 jobs since October 2006, the department said. The top three private growth sectors: professional and business services, 4,975 jobs; education and health services, 4,091 jobs; and leisure and hospitality, 1,954 jobs. The estimated seasonally adjusted work force rose to 990,612 in October, the department said. Of them, an estimated 31,335 were unemployed. That's an estimated 1,956 more people out of work than a year earlier.State Labor Commissioner Fernando Lecuona III said his department had expected job losses as the end of summer lowered seasonal employment in museums, hotels, restaurants and other travel and leisure jobs.'The good-news story is that manufacturing rebounded from a two-year low last month due to greater demand and expansion by major manufacturing employers,' he said in a news release. For Lincoln, the October unemployment rate was unchanged at 2.5 percent, which was two-tenths of a point higher than October 2006.For Omaha, the September rate was 3 percent -- down a tenth from September but two-tenths higher than October 2006.Omaha and Lincoln unemployment rates are not seasonally adjusted and are not compared with the state unemployment rate.Copyright 2007 Associated Press.
