PITTSBURGH (AP) - Mylan Laboratories Inc. said Monday a federal court backed the Food and Drug Administration's earlier ruling that the company is the only generic drug maker authorized to make a version of Pfizer Inc.'s high blood pressure treatment Norvasc.The U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia denied all requests for preliminary injunction against the agency's mid-month decision. In late March, Mylan started selling its version of Norvasc after another federal court invalidated a patent protecting the drug in a case with Canadian drug maker Apotex Inc.The FDA's decision supports Mylan's claim that it was first to file for a generic version of the drug, thereby entitling the company to six months of sales with no rivals.Pfizer booked about $4.86 billion in Norvasc sales last year. Norvasc is Pfizer's second best-selling drug behind the cholesterol-reducer Lipitor.Mylan shares rose 3 cents to $22.08 in afternoon trading on the New York Stock Exchange.Copyright 2007 Associated Press.
