BALTIMORE (AP) - A site next to Constellation Energy's Calvert Cliffs nuclear power plant in Lusby has been selected as the location for a possible new nuclear plant, UniStar Nuclear announced on Monday.UniStar picked the site for its first combined construction and operating license application. It is the first of many steps before the application can be submitted to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. UniStar emphasized that identification of the site does not represent a commitment by Constellation to build a new plant there.UniStar Nuclear plans to submit its reference application to the NRC no later than March 15, 2008.UniStar Nuclear is a jointly developed enterprise of Constellation Energy and AREVA Inc.The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners said in a statement that it recognizes the economic effect that a new nuclear power plant would have on the county through job creation and tax payments, as well as the importance of nuclear energy in meeting the country's energy demands.Copyright 2007 Associated Press.
