CUPERTINO, Calif. (AP) - Apple Inc. on Wednesday started a premium service called iTune Plus through its online digital music store, iTunes. The new service will allow users to download digital rights management-free tracks for $1.29 per song, 30 cents more than regular tracks which sell for 99 cents a download.Digital rights management software, also known as DRM, is software encoded on MP3 files, which is meant to stem illegal music downloads online. It restricts how users can use the files -- for example, setting limits on how often a playlist of MP3 files can be burned to a CD.iTunes Plus will also include EMI's digital catalog, which includes albums from Coldplay, The Rolling Stones, Norah Jones, Frank Sinatra, Joss Stone, Pink Floyd, John Coltrane and Paul McCartney.Apple shares traded at $114.52 in the premarket session, up 17 cents from Tuesday's closing price of $114.35.Copyright 2007 Associated Press.
