PARIS (Thomson Financial) - Iliad SA is expecting to spend 1.8-1.9 bln eur on launching a third generation mobile phone network if its application for France's fourth UMTS licence is successful, Maxime Lombardini, the CEO, told Les Echos. The company can raise the money because of the group's small debt levels and future cash flow, Lombardini said.As its cost structure is low, Iliad's Free operation would need only 'a small market share to reach break-even', the CEO told the business daily.Iliad said last night that it has submitted a proposal to watchdog Arcep for the fourth UMTS permit. It is seeking a deferred annual payment of the licence fee instead of a one-off payment of 619 mln eur.The three existing networks are operated by France Telecom's Orange, Vivendi's SFR and Bouygues Telecom. The deadline for applications to Arcep is midday today.Les Echos also reported that Egypt's Orascom is interested in bidding.tf.TFN-Europe_newsdesk@thomson.comjsa/an/cm2COPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
