BEIJING (XFN-ASIA) - China's IT industry earned revenue of 2.58 trln yuan in the first seven months, up 18.7 pct year-on-year, the Ministry of Information Industry said in a statement on its website.

According to the statement, the manufacturing industry reported revenue of 2.28 trln yuan, up 18.2 pct from the previous year, while revenue in the software industry reached 299.4 bln yuan, up 23.0 pct.

The industry's added value of production climbed to 497.7 bln yuan from January to July, up 18.1 pct year-on-year, the report said.

During the first seven months, China produced 302.7 mln mobile phone handsets, a 28.5 pct increase.

But output of TV sets fell 9.4 pct to 41.7 mln units, while production of liquid crystal display (LCD) TV sets jumped by 76.4 pct to 7.45 mln units.

The statement noted the domestic TV industry faced difficulties because it could not get enough effective support from 'upper-stream' industries, such as LCD panel makers.

In the first seven months, foreign TV manufacturers held a market share of over 50 pct of the panel TV market, the statement said.
