WASHINGTON (AP) - Internet telephone services provider Vonage Holdings Corp. spent about $752,000 in the first half of 2007 to lobby the federal government, according to a disclosure form.The company lobbied on the regulatory status of high-speed Internet communications and matters pertaining to emergency 911 communications.The Holmdel, N.J.-based company helped pioneer so-called Voice over Internet Protocol, or VoIP, technology, which enables phone service through a high-speed Internet connection. It has nearly 2.5 million subscribers, but lately has seen a drop in new customers.The company has appealed a verdict after it was found guilty in March of infringing upon three patents held by Verizon Communications Inc. in constructing its Internet telephone system. Vonage said in early August it had 'substantially completed the deployment of workarounds' for two of the patents, and has developed a workaround for the third one.The company lobbied Congress and the Federal Communications Commission, according to the disclosure form posted online Aug. 14 by the Senate's public records office.Under a federal law enacted in 1995, lobbyists are required to disclose activities that could influence members of the executive and legislative branches.
