WASHINGTON (AP) - Energy provider Southern Co. spent $7.1 million in the first half of 2007 to lobby the federal government, according to a disclosure form.The company lobbied on renewable fuels, climate change legislation and other issues, according to the form posted online Aug. 14 by the Senate's public records office.The Atlanta-based company lobbied Congress, the Energy Department, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.John Pemberton, former chief of staff to the EPA's assistant administrator for air and radiation, is among those registered to lobby on behalf of the company.Under a federal law enacted in 1995, lobbyists are required to disclose activities that could influence members of the executive and legislative branches.
