WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (AP) - The state Department of Environmental Protection said Friday it fined a cement company more than $174,000 for violating air quality standards over a three-year period.Besides the fine, Hercules Cement Co., of Stockertown, agreed to improve the tracking of its sulfur dioxide emissions and to submit additional quarterly reports to the DEP, said Michael Bedrin, the agency's northeast regional director.'The company self-reported the issue, cooperated with the department and has agreed to pay the penalty,' Bedrin said.The violations occurred between 2003 and 2006.Copyright 2007 Associated Press.
