BEIJING (XFN-ASIA) - Russia's LUKOIL Overseas said in a statement that the Uzbekistan government signed a protocol in Tashkent yesterday over a production sharing agreement (PSA) for exploration in an around part of the Aral Sea.The protocol is designed to set in motion the PSA signed last August by China National Petroleum Corp Intl Ltd, Russia's LUKOIL Overseas, Malaysia's Petronas Carigali Overseas, the Korean National Oil Co Aral Ltd and Uzbekistan's state-owned Uzbekneftegaz.Each of the five members has an equal stake in the project, LUKOIL Overseas said in a statement.Half of the area to be explored will be onshore, with the survey zone to cover some 2,300 kilometers, the statement said.The first of two exploration phases will cover a seismic survey and the drilling of 2 wells over a period of three years. The minimal financial commitment for the first phase is 100 mln usd, the statement said.It added that the feasibility study with the subsequent approval of commercial terms and conditions of the PSA will be formulated and approved based on the results of the first phase.After the approval of those terms and conditions, the second phase of exploration will begin, the statement said.sean.mangieri@xinhuafinance.com
