LONDON (AFX) - Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications said it plans to manufacture mobile phones in India via manufacturing agreements with Flextronics and Foxconn, its outsourcing manufacturing partners.Initially, the company say the focus will be on producing basic colour phones and mid-level music-enabled phones for local distribution in India.'The decision to manufacture in India is part of this strategic decision. With a GSM subscriber base of 105.4 mln, India is one of the fastest growing mobile markets in the world, and forms a priority growth market for Sony Ericsson worldwide,' the jointly-owned company said. The early phones will be priced competitively for the local Indian market and will also offer customised features such as local content and customised keypads, the company said.Sony Ericsson launched in India in 2002 and is now among the top three GSM handset players in the country.newsdesk@afxnews.comgp/ambCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2006.
