RightNow Technologies swings to 4Q loss |

BOZEMAN, Mont. (AFX) - RightNow Technologies Inc., a provider of customer relationship management software and services, said Wednesday it swung to a fourth-quarter net loss, hurt by higher operating expenses.The company reported a quarterly loss of $2.3 million, or 7 cents per share, compared with a prior-year profit of $3 million, or 9 cents per share. Excluding stock-based compensation of $1.1 million, RightNow said it lost 4 cents per share in the quarter ending Dec. 31.Wall Street, on average, expected a quarterly loss of a penny per share, according to an analyst poll by Thomson Financial.RightNow said its revenue rose to $28.8 million from $24.6 million, compared with analysts' projections of $28.1 million.Hurting the quarter was sales and marketing expenses jumping 43.5 percent to $16.4 million from $11.4 million in the prior-year quarter. Research and development costs rose to $4.1 million from $2.9 million, helping overall operating expenses grow to $23 million from $16.1 million.For the full year, RightNow said it lost $5 million, or 16 cents per share, compared with a prior-year profit of $7.7 million, or 23 cents per share. Revenue rose to $110.4 million from $87.1 million.RightNow shares fell 82 cents, or 5.4 percent, to close at $14.38 on the Nasdaq.
