UPDATE: Cabot Corp. 3Q net income declines, revenue rises above expectations

NEW YORK (Thomson Financial) - Cabot Corp. reported fiscal fourth-quarter net income of $24 million, or 36 cents a share, including a 7-cents-a-share in charges related to certain special items and discontinued operations.

The mean estimate of analysts surveyed by Thomson Financial was for earnings of 27 cents a share.

In the same period a year ago, net income was $27 million, or 39 cents a share.

Revenue for the quarter ending Sept. 30 rose to $675 million from $663 million a year ago, topping analyst forecasts of $671.3 million.

The stock closed Wednesday's regular session at $35.01.
