Mylan receives final FDA approval for generic ulcerative colitis drug

NEW YORK (Thomson Financial) - Mylan Inc. Monday said it had received final approval of a new drug application for Balsalazide Disodium capsules, a treatment for ulcerative colitis, from the Food and Drug Administration.

The capsules are a generic form of Salix Pharmaceuticals's Colazal product.

Mylan, a Pittsburgh-based pharmaceutical company, expects to begin shipping the product immediately.

Shares of Mylan closed Friday at $14.05.
