Greek shares close higher in quiet pre-holiday trade

ATHENS (Thomson Financial) - Greek shares closed higher in a quiet session ahead of the New Year's holiday. The ASE will remain closed tomorrow and re-open on Wednesday.

The ASE general index closed 0.5 pct higher at 5,178.8. The blue-chip index rose 0.4 pct to 2,752.4. Mid caps grew 0.8 pct to 6,264.3 and small caps gained 0.9 pct to 1,057.3.

Advancers outnumbered decliners 172 to 64 while 87 remained unchanged in very thin trade.
