Sector glance: Major oil stocks decline |

NEW YORK (AP) - Shares of major oil companies ended a hard-charging year on a down note, dipping Monday along with the price of crude.Investors had little reason to complain, however, as the Amex Oil & Gas Index finished 2007 about 35 percent higher than where it began.On Monday, the index fell 1.1 percent to close at 1,559.70. Broader indexes also declined. The Dow Jones Industrial Average sank less than a percent to finish the year at 13,264.82.At the New York Mercantile Exchange, light, sweet crude for February delivery declined 2 cents to settle at $95.98 a barrel. Prices remain near inflation-adjusted highs set in early 1980.Here's how key oil stocks fared Monday:BP PLC fell 78 cents to $73.17.ConocoPhillips lost 83 cents to $88.30.Chevron Corp. declined $1.53 to $93.33.Exxon Mobil Corp. sank $1.31 to $93.69.Hess Corp. fell $1.12 to $100.86.Copyright 2007 Associated Press.
