MILAN (Thomson Financial) - Italy's gas and electricity regulator (AEEG) is considering launching a probe over fraud allegations levelled at some Italian energy companies by the Milan prosecutors office over the use of gas measuring instrumentation, AEEG president Alessandro Ortis told a parliamentary hearing.'We are monitoring the case very closely and are collaborating with the prosecutors,' Ortis said.He said a probe might be launched to see whether certain regulations issued by the AEEG itself had been violated.Top management at Eni SpA, Snam Rete Gas SpA, Eni-controlled Italgas SpA, AEM SpA and Arcalgas, as well as the companies themselves, are being investigated for alleged fraud regarding measuring equipment used on gas transportation and distribution pipelines.stephen.jewkes@thomson.comsj/jrCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
