Google, EMI sign music deal for YouTube |

NEW YORK (AP) - Online search site operator Google Inc. and EMI Group PLC's EMI Music record label said Thursday that they have agreed to let users of Google's YouTube video-sharing site access videos and music by EMI artists.Under the deal, EMI will work with YouTube and Google to come up with business models through which YouTube users can view user-created content that features EMI-owned and copyrighted media, the companies said.The companies didn't reveal financial terms of the agreement, but in a statement EMI chief executive Eric Nicoli said that 'EMI Music and its artists will be fairly compensated for their work.'The companies said that EMI will use YouTube's content management tools to keep an eye on the use of its media and compensate its artists. The label can also ask that EMI-copyrighted media be removed from YouTube, if it wants.Google shares gained $7.70, or 1.5 percent, to $506.26 in midday trading.Copyright 2007 Associated Press.
