Boston Scientific starts NextStent study

NEW YORK (AP) - Medical device maker Boston Scientific Corp. said Thursday it enrolled its first patient in a post-market approval study of its NextStent cartoid stent system.

The system, approved in November, is used along with Boston Scientific's FilterWire EZ embolic protection system. The goal of the post-market approval study is to confirm the safety and effectiveness of the system. The study is designed to include 1,500 patients.

Shares of Boston Scientific rose 22 cents to $15.65 in afternoon trading.
