Ashland reports revenue dip at core unit |

NEW YORK (AP) - Chemical company Ashland Inc. said Wednesday revenue from its core distribution unit fell modestly in February to $327 million from $328 million during the same period last year.The distribution unit sells chemicals, plastic, composite materials and environmental services in North America and thermoplastics in Europe.The Covington, Ky.-based company said in a regulatory filing that revenue from its performance materials division, which makes specialty chemicals for various industries, fell 4 percent to $111.9 million from $116.3 million a year ago. Revenue from its water technologies division, which provides water treatment services, rose sharply to $61.3 million from $33.6 million.Revenue from its Valvoline lubricants unit jumped 12 percent to $122.3 million from $109.1 million.Shares of Ashland advanced 13 cents to $64.43 in afternoon trading on the New York Stock Exchange.Copyright 2007 Associated Press.
