EU's Kroes expects to close 'several' cartel probes this year

BRUSSELS (AFX) - EU competition commissioner Neelie Kroes said she expects to close 'several' cartel investigations this year.

Kroes said the commission made seven cartel rulings last year, imposing fines of 1.8 bln eur. The EU executive has adopted two further cartel decisions so far this year.

'I expect to bring several more investigations to an end later this year,' the commissioner said in a statement.

On Tuesday, Kroes said she would 'not be surprised' if the EU executive made nine or ten cartel rulings this year.
