Deutsche Telekom has no plans to sell T-Mobile USA - sources

BONN (Thomson Financial) - Deutsche Telekom AG is not planning to sell its US mobile phone unit T-Mobile USA, industry sources said.

Shares in the German telecommunications giant gained earlier today after Alltel's buyout to GS Capital partners and TPG Capital sparked rumours that Deutsche Telekom may be considering a sale of its US T-mobile business.

Private equity firm Blackstone, which holds 4.5 pct of Deutsche Telekom's shares, wants the company to sell the US unit to help boost its share price, sources said.

A spokesman for Deutsche Telekom declined to comment on the matter.
