BRUSSELS (AFX) - The European Commission is to ban Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) from flying into the 27 EU member states amid safety concerns, EU sources said.Experts from EU nations made the proposal after meeting in Brussels and agreeing that most of its fleet falls short of European safety standards and should therefore be added to the European flight blacklist, the sources said. The Pakistani international carrier flies to France, the UK, the Netherlands and Italy among other European destinations.Following inspections, Pakistani authorities promised to correct any problems but the experts decided that that work 'was still not complete', they said. The experts' advice is generally taken by the commission in around 10 days, and a decision to add a carrier to the blacklist then takes immediate effect.newsdesk@afxnews.comafp/jsaCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
