NEW YORK (AP) - U.S. stocks pointed toward a flat opening on Thursday after the government's durable goods report suggested the economy is growing a bit above expectations. With corporate earnings mostly over, Wall Street now hangs on economic data to give direction on both the economy and direction for stocks. The Commerce Department reported higher-than-expected durable goods orders in April. The report, which also had an upward revision to March results, is a key measure of business and consumer spending. In the first few minutes after the report was released, Dow futures expiring in June fell 5.00, or 0.04 percent, to 13,553. Standard & Poor's 500 index futures fell 1.00, or 0.05 percent, to 1,524.80. Nasdaq 100 index futures fell 0.25, or 0.01 percent, to 1,910.00.Copyright 2007 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
