LAGOS (Thomson Financial) - Gunmen have kidnapped several oil workers in southern Nigeria, some of them expatriates, police and diplomatic sources said today.'We got news some people were taken hostage but we don't know what nationality they are yet,' Bayelsa State police commissionner Julian Okpaleke said.'There has been an incident this morning offshore Bayelsa. A group of expatriate oil workers have been taken,' a diplomat, who asked not to be identified, told Agence France-Presse.Industry sources said as many as nine foreigners, of various nationalities, may have been seized in the incident, the latest in a series of abductions mainly attributed to militants seeking a greater share of the region's oil wealth.Sky television reported that two British nationals were amongst those seized.British diplomatic sources were not able to confirm the report.tf.TFN-Europe_newsdesk@thomson.comafp/icCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2007.
