WARSAW (AFX) - Polski Koncern Naftowy Orlen SA said its supervisory board has appointed Piotr Kownacki, an ally of the Polish president, as the company's president and chief executive officer with immediate effect.During the 1990s, Kownacki worked with Polish president Lech Kaczynski at Poland's state auditing institution, the Supreme Chamber of Control (NIK).Kownacki replaces Igor Chalupec, who has been dismissed, said PKN Orlen.Kownacki has been vice president responsible for auditing and regulations on PKN Orlen's management board since Oct 23, 2006.Prime minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski -- the president's twin brother -- commented on the appointment by saying Kownacki has experience of the state that is better suited to the need to ensure Poland's energy security.newsdesk@afxnews.comafp/jsaCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2006.
