HAMBURG (AFX) - The German works council of Airbus said up to 8,000 workers in the country may well lose their jobs as a result of the company's planned savings programme Power 8.Horst Niehus, works council head in Hamburg, said last night it was still unclear which of the seven manufacturing facilities in the country would be affected by Power 8.Airbus parent EADS NV will announce details of the savings programme on Feb 20.More than 10,000 Airbus workers are expected to attend a rally organized by trade union IG Metall to protest planned cost cuts.Airbus has around 23,000 full-time workers in Germany and around 6,300 part-timers.marilyn.gerlach@afxnews.comdp/mog/twCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2006.
