BEIJING (XFN-ASIA) - The delay in announcing China's first quarter economic figures was not the result of any abnormal factors, said National Bureau of Statistics spokesman Li Xiaochao.Li told reporters that the timing of the release of the figures is subject to change.China originally said it would issue data on Wednesday, and then postponed the announcement until 10 am today. It was then changed to 3 pm.The delay led to rumors in the stock market that the numbers would be particularly strong, pushing the central bank to tighten credit.Stock prices were sharply lower today in Shanghai and Shenzhen as a result of the speculation.will.davies@afxasia.com
