Pentagon approves funding for F-35 jet |

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Pentagon on Thursday signed off on initial production of the Joint Strike Fighter, a single-engine military fighter jet, after a senior advisory panel approved the terms of the deal.The Bethesda, Md.-based defense contractor is expected to deliver the F-35s to the Marines, Air Force and Navy. It is one of the largest defense spending programs ever with an expected cost of $276 billion.'We are pleased with today's decision for the first full funding of the F-35 production aircraft,' said Tom Jurkowsky, a spokesman for Lockheed.
