(Recasts with official confirmation from Labour Office, adds more details)FRANKFURT (AFX) - The number of jobless people in Germany in January fell a seasonally adjusted 106,000 compared with December, the Labour Office said, confirming information obtained earlier from sources.The decline was much greater than the 40,000 drop forecast by economists in an AFX News poll.The adjusted unemployment rate fell to 9.5 pct from 9.8 pct in December, the Labour Office said in a statement.In west Germany, the number of jobless dropped by 71,000 while in the east, it fell by 35,000.On an unadjusted basis, the jobless total rose by around 239,000 to 4.247 mln from 4.008 mln.The unadjusted unemployment rate was 10.2 pct, up from 9.6 pct December.newsdesk@afxnews.comjfb/icCOPYRIGHTCopyright AFX News Limited 2006.
