Unicredito, Societe Generale chief in talks; no specific plans on table - report

FRANKFURT (Thomson Financial) - Unicredito Italiano SpA's chief executive Alessandro Profumo and Societe Generale's CEO Daniel Bouton are currently holding talks, Handelsblatt reported, citing sources within the financial industry.

The two managers are not discussing plans for a specific project, it said.

Recent speculation has indicated the two banks may be interested in merging to form a banking giant with strong ties in France, Italy, Germany and eastern Europe, the newspaper said.
